GEOFBA200 Force Balance Accelerometer
The GEOfba200 is a very low-noise triaxial force-balance accelerometer with a large dynamic range, suitable for seismology, hazard mitigation, and civil engineering applications. The instrument has a flat response to ground acceleration from DC to 215 Hz and a stable phase response within the passband. The output range is 40Vpp differentially and supports a variety of gain settings from +/-4g to +/-0.25g in the standard configuration and higher gain settings upon request.
Additional Details
The sensor, with a high dynamic range over 155dB, is ideal for recording both strong motion and structural monitoring, as well as studying higher frequency motions. It supports easy field calibration via its calibration line.
The GEOfba200 contains three orthogonally placed accelerometers operating on the force-balance principle as a closed-loop sensor. The seismic mass’s motion is detected by a sensitive capacitive transducer and a low-noise VHF preamplifier. The demodulator generates a low-noise seismic signal that is fed back to the mass through a phase compensator, power amplifier, and a double coil-magnet system, ensuring symmetry and eliminating non-linearity. The output amplifier allows for a selectable acceleration gain between +/-4g and +/-0.25g.
