Structural Health Monitoring Services
Critical Data on Building Behavior During Earthquakes.
Enhancing Earthquake Resilience
Seismic monitoring systems provide essential data on building behavior during earthquakes, enhancing understanding of structural stability and improving building codes. These systems also reduce inspection time after major earthquakes by potentially eliminating the need for onsite engineer visits when sufficient data is available. They help meet government requirements for seismic instrumentation in critical or large buildings.
For example, the 2008 Los Angeles Building Code (1613.8.2) mandates at least three accelerographs in buildings over ten stories or over six stories with a total floor area of 60,000 square feet or more. These accelerographs are placed at the building's base, middle, and top, interconnected for common triggering and timing, with the topmost unit providing a GPS timing signal from the roof.
