New paper on Eagle Ford play shows earthquakes induced by hydraulic fracturing

 
 

As noted in the Houston Chronical news article, a new study published this week in Geophysical Research Letters indicates that much of the recent seismicity in the Eagle Ford shale gas play in Texas is induced by hydraulic fracturing. Fasola and her colleagues found a significant correlation between completion activity on wells and earthquakes close by. They further noted a large increase in seismicity that was coincident with the operations that was over 30 times the background seismicity rate for the area in 2018.
